How to get matte skin without makeup

Matte skin can look pretty amazing. It’s effortlessly flawless and naturally perfect.

Unfortunately, because of sweat and oil production, this can be difficult to maintain as you go about your day. But where there is a will there is a way.

This article will show you how to get matte skin without makeup

How to get matte skin without makeup

What to do: Ensure that the cleanser that you are using has salicylic acid in it. This cleanser contains salicylic acid and as a bonus, it contains ceramides which maintain the moisture barrier on your skin.

Why this works: The salicylic acid in the product will help you remove excess oil off of your skin giving you a lovely matte look

What to do: Use a good hydrating oil-free moisturizer. Just because you are trying to achieve matt skin doesn’t mean it should feel like sandpaper

What this works: If you use a good moisturizer your skin will be less prone to producing excess oil thus keeping your skin matte. This product will be a good choice, not only is it oil-free but it also contains hyaluronic acid which is great at hydrating the skin.

What to do: Ensure that you are wearing sunscreen, even when the clouds are out. This sunscreen will protect our skin without giving you the greasy look you can get from wearing sunscreen.

What this works: Sunscreen is actually very good at controlling oil and shine keeping your skin matte, you can even use it as a moisturizer. When the UV rays are exposed to the skin the rays pull water from the skin as well as increase your skins pore size. This, in turn, produces more oil. Avoid all this by wearing sunscreen, reduce any more excess oil on your face with these steps.

What to do: Ensure that you are using all oil-free products in all stages of your skincare

Why this works: These products are mattifying because they were specially formulated for oily skin. They will also regulate the oil on your skin. If you’re prone to oiliness always use products that are labelled “oil-free” or “mattifying”

What to do: Avoid eating hot foods, also avoid drinking cocktails and alcohols

Why this works: These foods/drinks if consumed, will cause your blood vessels to dilate, this makes you perspire and makes your skin more oily. If you can avoid these foods you will become more matte.

What to do: Ensure that you are using a good oil regulating or mattifying toner.

Why this works: Toner can have a variety of purposes. The main reason for toners is to balance the ph of the skin, toners can also be used to regulate acne if you use the correct one. Witch hazel is a great toner to use because it regulates oil production on the skin. This is my favourite witch hazel toner.

What to do: Use clay masks on a regular baits

Why this works:  Clay masks are amazing at absorbing excess oils from your skin. After you use the clay mask your skin will look visibly matte and oil-free. This is a well-loved clay mask that will do a great job at mattifying the skin.

What to do: Don’t be afraid to switch to a lighter moisturizer. Perhaps use a hydrating serum or a lotion.

Why this works: The heavier the product, the more of a dewy look you’ll get from it. To achieve the matte look you’ll need a lighter alternative. You can use a serum like hyaluronic acid to hydrate your face, this is my favourite.

What to do: Carry around and use blotting paper

Why this works: Blotting paper is an easy way to quickly mattify your skin, if you notice that you’re getting oily use them to instantly mattify your face. The paper will absorb the oil on your skin giving you a matte look. These blotting papers are easy to use and carry around.

What to do: Ensure that you are drinking enough water

Why this works: Staying hydrated will ensure that your skin is not producing too much oil in an effort to hydrate your skin. If you can hydrate your skin by drinking water the oil on your skin won’t have to.

What to do: Use honey in your skincare routine for 15-20 minute as a mask then rinse off

Why this works: Honey is one of many natural humectants (here are more natural humectants). Humectants draw water from the environment to moisture your skin and will prevent your skin from producing oil in an effort to moisturise the skin.

What to do: An oatmeal mask is a fantastic oil-absorbing mask to use in your skincare routine, use in a mask form for 15-20 minute then rinse off

Why this works: This works by absorbing the excess oil on your face. As an added bonus it exfoliates your skin. Mix with water to create a paste then apply, let the mask dry then wash it off. Moisturize to keep this skin matte.

What to do: Make an egg white and lemon face mask

Why this works: Egg whites are great at tightening pores, the pores, if tightened will release less oil onto the skin. The lemon is great at absorbing the excess oil on your skin.

What to do: Use ¾ drops of jojoba oil to moisturise the skin

Why this works: The jojoba oil mimics the natural oils on our skin, it is the most similar oil we have to the sebum on our skin. If you use the jojoba oil, your skin won’t produce excess sebum which would have otherwise caused oily skin. Your skin will stay matte after use. This is a great jojoba oil to use.

Note:

  • These are not permeant solutions to get matte skin. Unfortunately, the only permeant way is to be born with matte skin. But you can practice these tips on a regular basis to maintain matte skin.
  • There is a difference between matte and dry skin. Dry skin will eventually lead to oily skin. Never aim to dry out your skin.

How to get flawless skin without makeup

If you want flawless skin without makeup you also need to follow a good skincare routine.

A good skin care routine will give you flawless skin, will make your make up glide onto your face and the finished product will look amazing.

Use serums: Serums are lightweight yet concentrated products that deliver nutrients and moisture deep into your skin, they can do everything from hydrate to plump to nourish the skin. Using a serum will boost your skin’s health

Use sunscreen: A good sunscreen will protect you from fine lines, skin damage and discolouration on your skin, making your skin look flawless with or without makeup

Avoid touching your face: Your hands collect bacteria very easily, this bacteria transfers from everything you touch on a daily basis.

If you want flawless skin with no blemishes you need to avoid touching your face and spreading the bacteria from your hands to your face

Stop smoking: Smoking has enough negative health effects, one of the reasons you should stop smoking is for better skin.

Smoking reduces the skins efficiently to heal wounds and smoking doesn’t allow the skin to properly renew itself

Reduce junk food intake: Processed foods, which include foods filled with added sugars and white flour, will wind up making your skin dull and reduces the elasticity of your skin overall. Avoid processed foods for beautiful skin.

Drink water: For skin that stays hydrated, elastic and moisturised you’ll need to be drinking lots of water daily

What to eat for glowing skin?

What you put in your body is more important than what you put on your body.

Eating the right foods will do wonders for your health and will give you the skin you’re looking for.

There are a couple of foods that will be especially helpful in helping you get the beautiful skin you want:

Fatty fish: Fatty fish refers to fish that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Eating fish rich these acids will ensure that your skin stays moisturised, supple and thick.

Avocado contains good fats, these good fats help the skin stay moisturized, healthy and looking young and supple for longer.

They contain fatty acids which are needed by the body to maintain healthy skin.

Sweet potatoes: You can eat sweet potatoes as they are, as fries or in pies.

Regardless of how you choose to prepare them the sweet potatoes can offer a number of great benefits to your skin. Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of beta-carotene, the beta-cerotene is a natural sunblock.

This nutrient also adds a warm hue to your skin making your skin look glowing and healthy.

How to even out skin tone without makeup

Exfoliation: Exfoliation will remove the dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin and reveal fresh new skin cells beneath.

If you have uneven skin tone you can even it out by bringing new fresh skin with no hyperpigmentation to the surface.

Exfoliating will help bring the skin to the surface faster, giving you clear even skin tone

Retinols: You can get over the counter retinol which help boost cell turnover, this boost of cell turnover brings new fresh clear skin to the surface faster and gives you even skin in no time.

This is a lovely retinol cream to use for clear skin.

Dermabrasion: This process can be done in a dermatologist office. It entails using a rotating wire brush and moving it along your face.

This brush removes the top layer of uneven skin. The new skin that comes to the surface will be even and flawless.

Micro-needling: This process doesn’t remove the top layer of skin. Rather, it forces the skin to repair itself.

This entails going over the skin using a roller with needles at the ends. As the needles move over the skin they create small punctures in the skin.

The skin then produces collagen and elastin as it heals itself, this process clears up any hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

You can microneedle at home but the needles at a dermatologists office give a better result.
